Foodie Finds at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival

Happy Canada Day weekend to all of my fellow Canadians! I hope you are all having an amazing weekend, I know I sure have been. At this time last year, I was celebrating Canada Day in the USA with my lovely roommates from the Disney International College Program. I remember how hot and muggy it was outside that day, but we obviously didn't let the weather determine how much fun we had. Aside from me being all nostalgic and what not over Disney, I've had the pleasure of spending the holiday this year with my loved ones. I have this running tradition in my family where we always go to Cobourg Beach for the Waterfront Festival and buy lots of yummy goodies.

We came and we conquered indeed. Today was a girls day for my grandmother, mother, and myself. We certainly did not leave disappointed. I love going to festivals like these because I can always find unique treats, and even decor, that you can't usually get anywhere else. Not to mention, it's always great to support local businesses.

This year I managed to pick up some of my typical favourites:
  • Flavoured chickpeas and soybeans from The Bean Ladies (a delicious and healthy alternative to potato chips)
  • Flavour-packed gourmet dips from Sassy Sisters (great for vegetables, chips, pretzels, you name it!)
  • Delicious shortbreads from The Shortbread Co (this stuff is seriously heaven in my mouth)
  • Chocolate-cashew buttercrunch from fraktals (melt-in-your-mouth chocolatey goodness

Overall, I had a splendid day, enjoyed the beautiful view of the water, and treated myself to some Ontario-made goodies. For all of you fellow Canadians out there, remember to always try your hardest to support local and keep the gourmet community alive. In a world full of GMO's, unpronounceable chemicals, and artificial flavours, it's always a better option to reach for something that won't hurt our bodies. If we continue to show the love for our local businesses, we will become a part of making the community and country a healthier place.

The Cobourg Waterfront Festival is on for one more day, so definitely make the trip out if you have a chance to! And for the rest of you out there, stay safe and enjoy your holiday weekend.
