Thread-up Thursday; Fall Fashion Trends

This fall's fashion trends have almost a winter-y vibe to them. Super-long sleeves, goth-like colours, and even warm velvets, these trends will have you reaching for the hot-cocoa and sitting by the fire rather than jumping around in a pile of leaves. However, there is always a way to work around those winter vibes, and having you look back-to-school ready in no time. Check out the style guide below for a super-trendy fall 2016 look:

The above look incorporates 5 different fall 2016 fashion trends: velvet, plaid/tartan, gothic/grunge colours, lacey/flowy fabrics, and tassels. You'll look like you belong on the streets of New York City with this fashion-forward look for back to school. No matter what the weather, you have endless options to layer up or loosen up with these trends. Check out stores like Forever 21 for style inspo, they're always stocked with the latest trends and endless options to play around with!

Tasty Tuesday w/DAVIDsTEA

DAVIDsTEA seriously makes my tastebuds excited. I was introduced to this company just under a year ago, and since then, the addiction has been very real. DAVIDsTEA has so much to offer for the inner tea-addict in everyone. Whenever I shop there, I always feel like I'm trying to keep up with the latest trend. It's like visiting Forever21 every season, but with tea instead of clothing. Every season, holiday, occasion, you name it, DAVIDsTEA is readily stocked with themed mugs, flavours, colours, designs, just about anything. I always feel so stylish and girly when I have my tea, and that's exactly the way I like it.

My current DAVIDsTEA obsession is their iced tea collection from this summer. I'm a true Canadian, and therefor, sweet tea just really isn't a thing we experience in our country. Every time I went to America, I would order iced tea, thinking I'd get a cold glass of Nestea, but soon realize the true reality of it all after the first sip. However, I have been converted. Real iced tea is the bomb. Just since May, I've had iced tea in flavours such as: Electric Lemonade, Shirley Temple, Pom-Tango, Pina Colada, Just Peachy, Cotton Candy, the list could go on. The fun thing about making iced tea is that, I could experiment with my other loose leaf teas from DAVIDsTEA to see how they tasted iced. The options are endless.

If you're a true tea-lover, nows your chance to really get a feel for DAVIDsTEA. Their semi-annual sale is on right now, and you have the chance to get an extra 40% off of some really cool items, including the iced teas and accessories! As for me, I'll be patiently waiting to see what super-cool ideas they come up with for my favourite holiday ever (Halloween!!).

Makeup Monday; KylieCosmetics Birthday Collection

Today is a very exciting day for many makeup enthusiasts out there. Yesterday afternoon, Kylie Jenner revealed over snapchat that her "Birthday Edition" line would be released today (August 1st) at 3pm PST. Every product in this line has special, limited edition gold packaging, and the products are all infused with real gold (say what?). However, with that all said, the products are still reasonably priced for their high-end quality. Here's a peek at the products being released:

Creme Shadows in the colours "Copper" and "Rose Gold" ($20 USD)
Kyliner Kit, Pencil and Gel Liner in the colour "Dark Bronze" ($38 USD)
Mini Matte Liquid Lipstick Set with colours: Exposed, Candy, Koko, Kristen, and Leo ($36 USD)
Matte Liquid Lipstick Kit in colour "Leo" ($30 USD)

**Seen in the first photo: Makeup bag ($42 USD), "Lord" Gold Metallic Liquid Lipstick ($19 USD), and "Poppin" Gold Metallic Lipgloss ($16 USD)**

For those truly die-hard fans, the whole bundle can be purchased for $195, saving about $6. There are definitely a couple of items that I can see myself grabbing, since these products are apparently only available until August 10th/2016. Will you be picking up anything from the new Kylie Cosmetics release today? Remember, it goes live at 3pm PST (or 6pm EST), so set your alarm and get your pick before anything sells out.

Stylin' Sunday; Rainy Day Blues

Autumn is just around the corner *cringes at the idea of school starting again*, and where I'm from, that means that everyday is a rainy day. Aside from the extremely unusual drought that part of Canada has been experiencing, it's usually pretty rainy here. I've discovered over the years that, owning rain-boots is a must. However, putting together a rainy-day appropriate outfit can be a little difficult when you have to work around a chunky pair of rubber footwear. Check out the style guide below for some rained-out inspiration:

Keeping your style simple is essential when it's raining outside. You want to have enough layers to keep most of your body dry, but you don't want to cover up so much that it makes you claustrophobic.   Rainy wardrobe malfunctions are quite common, so as much as it may seem like a great idea to wear bright clothes on a gloomy day, try and stick to neutrals (just in case right?). Either way, you're bound to look awesome walking around on your very own wet-gravel-runway.

Don't forget to add an umbrella to the mix!

Fangirl Friday; Surviving ComiCon

Ever thought about hitting up a Comic Convention or Fan Expo near you? It's a really awesome experience, and there's always something in it for everyone. However, there are definitely many tips and tricks that can make your time at these events worthwhile. And I'm ready to share with you how to make the absolute best out of any comic/fan themed experience! Get ready for a jam-packed list of awesomeness:

  1. Buy your tickets in advance: this is going to be the most stress-free option for anyone who is interested in attending. You won't have to worry about showing up just to find out that tickets are sold out, and you skip the ticket-line altogether.
  2. Choose your day wisely: if you don't plan on attending the entire weekend of the event, be sure to choose which day you go wisely. Fridays are usually the first full day of the event, there will be a lot of different mini-events going on, and celebrity appearances, and the venue will definitely be busy with event-goers. Saturdays are crazy days, but can also be very fun. Almost every planned celebrity guest will be around on the Saturday, there will be plenty of mini-events, and the crowd will almost (if not already) be at capacity. Sundays are the most relaxed at conventions. The event will still have celebrity guests and mini-events, but definitely not as many as on Fridays and Saturdays. Because of this, the crowd is a little less intense.
  3. Plan your day ahead of time: be sure to check out what types of vendors you'll be interesting in stopping at, as well as what celebrities you may want to meet. A lot of vendors/meet and greets take cash only, so you'll want to bring however much money that you have budgeted for. Information for celebrity pricing and vendor maps will most likely be on the website of the convention you are attending. (don't forget about money for food, you will definitely get hungry!)
  4. *Wear a costume*: this is the ultimate must of attending a convention. 90% of the people around you will be dressed up in cosplay, and when you're playing along with everyone else, the excitement of the event kicks in even more. You'll have people stopping you for pictures, and it's a great icebreaker to meet new friends.
  5. Go with a group: going with a group of people, for me at least, made the experience really enjoyable, especially since we were all in costume. We were constantly starting up conversations with strangers, and having our pictures taken every few minutes. It was so much fun to feel like our own little "celebrities" for the day.
Comic Conventions/Fan Expos have so many different things to do, so you won't have to worry about getting bored. You'll see artwork, accessories, demonstrations, celebrity panels, contests, costumes, and so much more at these events. As long as you buy your tickets in advance, you won't really have worry about what time to show up, as it all depends on how much time you want to spend there. Get geeky and let loose!

I'll be attending FanExpo this coming September, so be sure to check out their website for more info. It's an incredibly fun event, and you will not be disappointed!

Wear-it Wednesday; USA Shopping Spree

As you all know, I spent the last few days shopping my worries away in the USA. The term "shop till you drop" is a real thing, and I couldn't have been more excited to spend some quality time in my bed at the end of each day. Obviously it was a successful trip. I found everything from clothes, to makeup, and even a super-cute bedding set. I put together a little collage of some of the things I picked up these past few days below:

order is listed from left to right on top, and left to right on the bottom

You can definitely look forward to seeing some of these pieces styled on me in the near future, as well as some of the other non-fashion items featured on the blog. I truly love how unique each and every piece I found ended up being, my style is such a mishmash of different things, so I'm always just randomly finding things that look girly, glam, or just plain geeky. I'm also highly impressed with how much PacSun has changed over the years. Their stuff is just so casual and cute, and extremely trendy. I'll definitely be shopping there more often!

Don't forget that Thursdays are break days, so there will be no post tomorrow, but fear not, for Friday is going to be nerd-tastic!

Tasty Tuesday w/Zehnder's Restaurant

Planning on making a stop in Michigan anytime soon? Then you'll definitely want to hit up the world famous Zehnder's Restaurant in Frankenmuth, Michigan. This place is all kind of bad for you, but in all the best ways. They serve foods from every food group, but are especially famous for their chicken dinners. It's like eating a Thanksgiving dinner any time of the year!

Visiting this restaurant is a tradition for my family every summer, and since this is my first summer here while being a vegetarian, I was a little worried that there wouldn't be much for me to choose from. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Zehnder's had an entire section of their menu dedicated to vegetarian options.

I'm super basic and obviously ordered a quesadilla, but let me tell you, it was a damn good quesadilla. 10/10 would recommend. This thing was loaded with vegetables, the quesadilla of all quesadillas. And of course, for all you meat lovers out there, I felt that it was only fair to snap a pic of what Zehnder's is truly famous for, their chicken dinners.

(don't worry, that gravy was shared between more than one person)

But seriously, who doesn't love Thanksgiving dinner in the middle of the summer?!

Well ladies and gents, there you have it, the best place to get that southern-fried fix you've been itching to find!
