Let's face it, skincare is not everyone's strong suit, and that's totally okay. But the minute we all hit our twenty-somethings, taking care of our skin is a real thing, and by real I mean: "don't panic, that's totally not a wrinkle, what do I do?!".
We're always hit with constant reminders that wrinkles mean aging, and aging means getting old, and nobody likes that idea stuck in their head. A lot of our common skin problems however, can be easily taken care of with a little bit of TLC.
If there's one thing that we should all save our money and splurge on, it should definitely be skin products. This stuff goes on your face, seeps into your pores, and affects your body and health as a whole. However, splurging on some things means saving money on others, and I've compiled a list of products that will help you do just that!
- Philosophy; Purity Cleanser ($14-$52): This stuff is the greatest. Not only does it help remove dirt and get deep down into those pores for a squeaky-clean finish, but it also removes makeup, and it works for every skin-type. This cleanser can get pretty pricey, but because of its amazing abilities at removing makeup, you save on having to buy make-up remover! (Not to mention that it's super gentle on the eyes).
- Sephora; Precision Pore Cleaning Pad ($8): Instead of having to buy an exfoliating cleanser, you can use this awesome silicone pad on days when you need a little extra something for your skin. Because this pad is silicone, and not grainy or made of rough bristles, it gently exfoliates to open your pores and help slough off dead skin. You can use any cleanser that you have on-hand, and just gently rub the pad on your face in circular motions for a deep clean. This awesome little item also doubles as a make-up brush cleaner (score!).
- Sheet Masks (Anywhere from $2 to $200): Sheet masks are the bomb-diggity. You can find one for any type of skin-care problem out there. They can be extremely pricey if you're looking for something more higher-end, but if you're like me and you just want something to liven up your skin, they can be really cheap. I tend to like these types of masks a lot more than wash-off masks because they really penetrate the skin with product, and they're super clean and easy to use. No sloppy wash-off mess with these!
- Lush; Cup'o Coffee Mask ($10-$20): This stuff is the ultimate cure for the skin after a late-night-out, or even to help get rid of razor-burn on your legs. This caffeine-infused mask can be used in the morning to help wake your skin up, and you can use it all over your body if you want. It's super-grainy but also super-moisturizing, so you get great exfoliation with it, but you also don't have to worry about drying your skin out.
- Lancome; High Resolution Anti-Wrinkle Cream ($97): This cream is for all you ladies and gents out there who might be worried about fine-lines appearing. Anti-aging products should actually be used before any signs of aging in order to slow the process down. If you use them after the fact, the outcome might not be as satisfying. This product here though is the pot-of-gold. It's super light on the skin and dries matte, so you can use it in the daytime or at night. For all of you drier-skin people out there however, you might need to add a heavier moisturizer to the areas of the skin that get the driest. Or, you can opt for the nighttime version of the cream.
- The Body Shop; Vitamin C Skin Boost ($28): This serum-y type of product is just so lovely. If you're looking for a product that isn't too heavy, helps brighten and revive dull skin, and can be worn under makeup, this is it. The Vitamin C Skin Boost has a primer-like consistency and matte-ifies the skin, perfect for overtop of moisturizer and under makeup. It also smells like Florida oranges, and who doesn't love Florida oranges?
- Saje; Bliss Mist Toner ($30): If you're looking for the ultimate toner, this is the stuff you want. This toner can be used as your typical after-cleansing toner, a makeup setting spray, and even a middle-of-the-day refreshing spray. (Shoutout to using one product for 3 things instead of buying 3 products for one thing!).
- Eye Sheet Masks ($5-$95): Jumping on that sheet-mask bandwagon again. Eye sheet masks are really awesome though, and will do a lot more for you then an eye cream, and you only have to use them a couple of times a week. Because these masks sit on your under-eye area for 15-20 minutes, the product gets into the pores way better than an eye cream will. The product stays on your face - after you remove the masks - for the rest of the day, so you reap the benefits all day long as well. And like I said before, you can choose to save or splurge on these depending on the concern you want to take care of.
- Hawaiian Tropic; Face Sunscreen (approx. $10): In my opinion, this is the holy grail of SPF for your face. Wearing an SPF on your skin everyday is good for so many reasons. It prevents premature aging, sunburns, and keeps your skin baby-bum-smooth. This product in particular is oil-free and dries on matte, so you don't have to worry about looking like an oil-slick. It's perfect for wearing under makeup, and it smells like a tropical vacation (in a good way).
- Water: Getting your recommended intake of water each day (2 litres) is going to do wonders for your skin. You'll find your acne lessens, your skin is moisturized, you won't age as fast, and you will have a healthy glow. You'll also find that, you won't have to splurge so much on products when drinking water will do most of that for you. If you want something more in-style or higher-fashion however, you can splurge on a bkr Water Bottle ($28-$45), so you can look cute while drinking your water too!
