Fangirl Friday - Pokemon Go or No?

In recent news, it seems like the world of Pokemon has finally blown up again. This new app, released July 6/2016, has become a huge phenomenon worldwide. Not only is this a huge refresher for all of the 90's kids out there, but it's also brought joy to the younger demographic as well. So what exactly is this game even about?

Now I, myself, have downloaded the app, but I feel like I haven't been able to experience it to its full potential (being that I'm in Canada, and I live in the middle of nowhere). So far, I know that it's a great motivation for people who wouldn't normally exercise on a daily basis, because it forces the user to spend several minutes, if not hours, walking around outside in search for Pokemon. So for that aspect alone, I have a lot of respect for this game. And I know there's obviously negative aspects as well, but I'll leave that to you to look into if you wish.

The basics of this game begin with you customizing your trainer by gender, skin tone, hair colour, and outfit. From there, you begin the game and can start catching Pokemon. The app uses Google Maps and can detect when you're directly on a street, off road, and even when you're in an established building. Once you reach higher levels, you can choose a team to be a part of, and battle with your Pokemon in Gyms (which are either locations created by you, or by someone else before). There are also "PokeStops", where you can apparently get items for the game.

Overall, I think the general idea of this game is really innovative. I like to see the world of gaming expand into the real world. Not only is this app encouraging daily physical activity, but it's also getting people out of their houses and enjoying the fresh air as a whole. Will you be catching Pokemon anytime soon? Head on over to the official website for more information.

Check in this weekend for a Stylin' Saturday/Sunday !
