Matte lips are all the rage lately, especially so after the release of Kylie Cosmetics during the 2015 holiday season. However, it seems that Kylie's highly sought-after lipsticks are extremely difficult to get a hold of, and aren't exactly friendly for everyone's wallets. Since then, the company ColourPop Cosmetics has blown up in an extremely positive way due to their formula being so similar to Kylie's.
So here's the lowdown on ColourPop. This company has an incredibly large number of lipsticks and formulas to choose from, and are so reasonably priced ($6 USD for a lipstick). Being that matte is the formula I really wanted to try out, I got my hands on two lipsticks that are said to be "Kylie Lipkit dupes".
The first one I got is called "Midi", which is said to be a Koko K dupe. I find that it can be very difficult to wear a nude lip on me for some reason, I assume because of my skin-tone, but this lipstick has just the right combo of nude and pink to truly flatter my face.
The second lipstick I got, although darker on me for sure, is called "Clueless" and is said to be a Posie K dupe. This colour appears darker on me than I've seen on others, but I'm still absolutely in love with it. I would probably describe this colour as a mauve-y dusty-rose.
The ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks are 100% a true matte. They take about 1-2 minutes to fully dry down after application, and they do not transfer at all. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a full-proof matte lipstick to give ColourPop a go. Here are a few tips and tricks for a perfect ColourPop matte lip:
Watch Videos Before Purchasing: Try to avoid looking at pictures of other people wearing the colours you're interested in. Pictures are usually less reliable because of how edited the colour could be. Do a quick search in Youtube of someone trying on different ColourPop colours, and find whoever's skin tone matches yours the best to see how the lipstick will truly look.
Use Coupons: ColourPop will send you a $5 off coupon if you give them your email. That's basically a free lipstick.
Exfoliate: Once you're ready to wear a matte lip, be sure to exfoliate your lips ahead of time and get rid of all the dead/dry skin.
Prime Lips: Before you go to bed, and while you're getting ready in the morning, wear a really moisturizing lip balm to keep your lips smooth (make sure the lip balm dries up or pat some of it off before applying the lipstick). Matte lipstick can be very drying on the skin, so take care of your kisser!
Don't Over-coat: Try to do each lip (top/bottom) with one coat of product. If you try to build the lipstick while the first coat is still drying, it will end up crumbling right off your lips. One coat is usually fine anyways, these lipsticks are highly pigmented.
Avoid Greasy Foods: I've discovered that this is a matte-lip's nightmare. The oil from greasy food will rub the colour right off of your mouth.
Go ahead and indulge in these beauties, you won't regret it!
